Statement of Purpose

 

We are an independent Foundation for research-based promotion and advocacy of human rights from an Aotearoa/New Zealand - South Pacific perspective

Officers

The former Governor General and High Court Judge, Dame Silvia Cartwright, is our Patron. Our Chairperson is Tim McBride, Peter Hosking is Secretary and Executive Director. The position of Treasurer is currently vacant. On the Management Committee are Sue Elliott, Margaret Bedggood, Kris Gledhill, David Ryken, Ced Simpson, Valmaine Toki, Lane West-Newman and Geraldine Whiteford. The Committee has the power to co-opt so if you are interested in helping out, even on a temporary basis, please get in touch with a Committee Member.

The Foundation has now been registered as a society under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 and has charitable status approved by the IRD. Among other things this means your donations are deductible for tax purposes.

Advisory Council

The Management Committee is in the process of appointing an Advisory Council consisting of people of eminence in the human rights field who are experienced or knowledgeable in human rights law or practice, in the Treaty of Waitangi, and/or in current economic, social and cultural issues.

To date, the following people have agreed to serve on the Advisory Council:

Foundation (Life) Members

Foundation (Life) Membership is available to people who may be in a position to give the Foundation extra support. The Founding (Life) Membership Fee for individuals is $500 and for corporate bodies is $2,000. You can use our online membership application form.

Membership Fees

Membership fees are as follows:

Individual $50; unwaged $20

Corporate $200; Charitable organisations - donation

Foundation (life) membership: $500 (individual) $2000 (corporate)
